Watch this space for an update on how many own-goals we score / how many times Ben hoofs it out of the stadium / how many times Dan does a swan lake pirouette…

Thought Den’s first Public Event!

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Below is the moment, captured in glorious 3D hi-definition technicolour, that Thought Den took the stage at Cineformation’s Film and New Media event, held at the Watershed. The session has been written about before, but for those of you who missed it, watch the vid.

Our section of the event aimed to encourage the users to participate in the debate by hosting an open brainstorm after a brief run down of the current relationship between Film and mobile platforms such as mobile phones. The results were a little bizarre, but we uncovered some pertinent issues all the same…

Online advertising

Monday, May 19th, 2008

A piece in the Media Guardian today nicely summarises the point I’ve been blabbing about over the last few months - online spend is yet to overtake print & TV spend, even though we spend more time online than watching TV and reading newspapers!

Projected advertising spend

What does this mean for us? I suppose we’ve got at least a few more years of running round like headless chickens before the second dotcom bubble bursts =) For more info read the Guardian post

A hard day at the office

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Thought Den have been working hard this year, with Kerve for Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort, meeting Mr Darling, kicking off Happy Packages, finishing Happy Packages phase 1, winning Happy Packages phase 2 (see this post) winning work with Bournemouth Media School, the Marketing department and the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice. When it’s written like that, it’s less of a surprise that we’re nearly half the way through the year…

So we decided to hold a meeting. In Bournemouth. On the beach. In the sun. A great chance to get a breath of fresh air and a new perspective, both figuratively and literally. But besides larking in the sun, we made a lot of headway on the Bournemouth Virtual Tour project, had a great debrief on the first Thought Den Industry Day and kicked off the biggie with CEMP. More news on that one to follow…

Thought Den Industry Day Launches!

Friday, May 9th, 2008

It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally done it. The first event was a resounding success - 30 students, 4 briefs, 7 hours and a whirlwind of creativity later we’re still buzzing!
The four agencies submit their pitches...

Besides the complete logistical cock up getting to Bournemouth (train tickets not valid, a 6 mile bike ride across town and back at 6am, finally resorting to a rush hour dash in Dan’s car) we arrived with 15 minutes to spare, wolfed down a coffee/croissant breakfast and got to work. There was an incredible amount to cram into the day so we started as we meant to go on, talking 19 to the dozen at rows of sleepy students unsure what to expect from two caffeine fueled meejah tarts from the city. Not to mention the video camera in their faces, handled excellently by Holly Budge of Hip Joint Films. The video will be up shortly…

After the first session we all did an introduction session to get the energy levels up, which was followed by the open brainstorm to develop 4 briefs the teams would be working from for the rest of the day. Having whittled the list of clients and platforms down to four apiece we ended up with:

Anne Summers - Wii remote installation
Guinness - Rich media flash site
Roman Catholic Church - Alternate Reality Game
Apple - Video virals

Before lunch each team had to submit a pitch document (more…)
