Euroball hits the jackpot!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Team Rubber’s Euroball game for JVC, developed with Thought Den love at the tail end of last year (more info in our Portfolio), has been voted Adobe’s site of the day! A huge accolade from the people that make the software we all use day in day out. Great news!

We’re in the final!

Friday, June 20th, 2008

It was a tough, tense, physical game, but leading scorer Ben Templeton netted the crucial goal taking the team through to the Plate final. Another beautiful turn and volley, but it was the fantastic defending that kept us in the match. Phil ‘Solid as a rock’ Stenton lead from the back, while Ilango and Tom smashed the midfield.

Only trouble is, we’re a bunch of crocks after that match, injuries everywhere! Here’s a pic of the full strength team followed by some action shots.

The only time we\'ve been a full strength squad!

Bristol Open (free!) Coffee morning

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Had a great session this Wednesday at the OpenCoffee in Starbucks on Park Street. The morning is centred around breaking business issues and opportunities for the Bristol digital scene.

Thought Den’s first Industry Day

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Some of you might already have heard about our dalliances with the world of education, but here in all it’s glory is the launch video for our Industry Day product. It was all filmed on location at Bournemouth University Media School with the 2nd year students on Interactive Media Production. We had a fantastic time with everyone down there and can’t wait to roll it out around Britain in the next academic year. Find out more about the Industry Day, and check out Dan’s sexy centre-parting in the video below…

The project was first commissioned through the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice, based at Bournemouth Media School. There is more information here about the day on the CEMP site. A big thankyou to Holly Budge of Hip Joint Films for her hard work on the video. There’ll be a 3 minute taster on the way too, as this one might be a little long for the casual user…

What Thought Den are reading

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Another week of some truly amazing web & mobile fun. In the previous weeks we’ve really been focussed on future phone payments, but this week Thought Den are breaking into the ‘original online’ world again. So let’s have a look at some of the things we’d love to play with this week…

Interactive Youtube - Ben is clearly a better magician

It’s seems Youtube is taking the next step in video being more than ‘just watchable’. Videos are now supporting a new feature, ‘annotations’ which allow a publisher to add interactive commentary to their work, eg, little hotspots which can link to anything, “click here & goto our site”.

So far it just looks like little gray boxes that slightly get in the way of what you’re watching. But, I’m excited to see what people will start doing with it for fun, also to see if any other vendors will start mucking around with new interactions in their players maybe layered animations? But, to be honest, it’s something we’ve all seen before in the South West and Coull make their money out of it!

The success of the new player will be interesting, I wonder if it’s going to follow the same route as Interactive Story DVDs, anyone remember Final Destination 4? It didn’t really hit the papers with it’s “choose their fate” selectors and gory promises. But I suppose the Youtube audience is a lot younger and open to trying out new things so who knows, it could become a fun way for telling a story.

So here’s a few Viral Campaigns we’d like to run at Thought Den now…

  • Anne Summers (not with the Wii this time)
  • Lynx
  • Dungeons and Dragons, “will you attack the beast (goto video 4) or will you use your sword of many omens (goto video 9)”
  • Final Destination 5…
